We have two new mountain bike dvd's here waiting to be watched on a rainy day or before you go out for a ride. Brighter is Filmed in North and South America. From past editor of Freeride Entertainment, Tamas Forde/New Wave Cinema is delivering exactly what you’ve been missing: A feel good, pro quality film...at an affordable price.

Race Across The Sky - the story of the 2009 Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race will inspire you to "Dig Deep". At 10,000+ feet, against the misty backdrop of a former mining town, Leadville, Colorado, 1228 cyclists start the grueling 100 mile race. This epic mountain bike race was captured with 10 HD cameras throughout the course including a helicopter and an off-road motocam. Racers include seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, six-time defending champion Dave Wiens and three-time World 24 hr Champion Rebecca Rusch. It's not only about getting up close and personal with the top racers but about all the racers and their inspirational stories. You'll laugh, you'll cry and if you don’t get on a bike you'll do something amazing after watching this film!

d

Summer is right around the corner and with that comes sweaty palms, get ahold of your grips with these new gloves from Troy Lee. If the bright colors and checkerboard deigns aren't for you we have plenty of blacks, grays, and white to choose from too!

rg

Hydrapak's Reyes pack features durable, clean design featuring the largest reservoir and two compression straps to keep gear secure during 3-4 hour excursions. Chris King has made their ever popular and very reliable headset in a internal/zero stack version name the InSet. The classic Chris King sealed bearing is built into three configurations for many of the most contemporary bicycle head tube dimensions. As a low-stack style headset, the press-in cups and bearings are housed within the head tube allowing for an overall lower ride height. InSet compatibility can also conform to forks with tapered steerer tubes. Aluminum cups in 10 available colors house our legendary bearings; all made in-house in their Portland, Oregon facility.

d

Another Ellsworth Evolve is out on the trails complete with parts that will withstand the test of time. This Evolve uses the new Chris King bottom bracket which has been getting some testing from our shop crew and all riders are very pleased with how smooth it is. Fox shox front and rear make for a very dialed ride as well!

g

A 15mm axle makes for a stiff front end, it's extremely easy to switch an Industry Nine hub from standard Q.R. to 15 or 20mm setups. Switching the press on cones is all it takes to adapt it to another fork, which is nice when you may be upgrading in the future.

8

An I9 rear hub was the obvious choice due to the smooth rolling and quick engagement. It was laced to a No Tubes ZTR Arch rim for strength. A SRAM Drivetrain was also used for hassle-free and reliable shifting.

y

The verdict is in on these fine brakes from Avid... They ROCK! You know it's good when some of the down hill guys are using them.

7

We've had a lot of people trying the Industry Nine Hubs and we can say that they are very happy with the performance. Here's a silver one we built up this week.

Louisville local Marcas Grubbs put in some hard work these past two weeks for this new We The People edit . Look foward to more edits filmed by MOVEMENT in the near future including a day from Ft. Duffield.

March 28th, 2010

Here's some footage from a trip up to rays indoor mountain bike park I took a couple weeks ago. This place is enormous, most of the clips in here are just from the new Troy Lee Designs Rhythm Room. There really is so much more to this place including ramps for all types of riders.

Although I rode most of the time I was there I did get a couple clips with Mike Needs, Spencer Recnk, and Daniel Dhers.

Spring is here and with that comes a lot of tune-up work, thanks go out to all who have brought their bikes in for the good ol yearly check up. We've got some good projects in the works so be sure to keep an eye out for some hot new bikes on our site. Here's a couple to hold you over.

Salsa's Fargo is a bit of a bicycling anomaly: a disc brake only, drop bar mountain bike designed for off-road touring. Drop bars provide multiple hand positions for long days on singletrack, path, or roadway. A full compliment of braze-on’s on the frame and fork allow for both front and rear racks and fenders. The investment cast chainstay-mounted disc brake mount is conveniently tucked out of the way, eliminating accessory mounting interference. Load as much or as little gear as you choose for your next adventure. The sloped toptube allows plenty of standover clearance for those fully-loaded starts and stops.

r43

The ease of a single speed set up is loved by all types of cyclist... Kona's Big Unit is the perfect bike for hitting the trails and not having to worry about snagging your derailleur on a rock. The Scandium butted frame makes for a light ride, while high end parts from Fox, Shimano, and Race Face gaurentee things will work properly.

d

The Big Unit comes with a sliding drop out and a derailleur version is available in case you want to go geared once in a while.

Liberty Tattoo & Art Parlor's Bike Art show opens this Saturday, March 10. We are meeting here at the shop at 7p.m. for a ride to Liberty, the ride will leave at 7:30.

f

We've received some really cool bikes these last couple days. The Paddy Wagon features a high bottom bracket, increased pedal clearance for fixed riding, but maintains classic road geometry with fender clearance for funky-less commuting.

m

Kona's Africa Bike is designed specifically to provide effective, affordable transportation to those who need a bike that gets the job done-no matter if it's dirt roads or psycho-habituated roadways.

As a sign of Kona's commitment to the goodness that is the bicycle, for every two Africa Bikes sold, one is donated to a good works cause in challenged areas around the world. Visit www.konaafricabike.com to find out more.

r

f

A built in lock comes spec'd on the Africa Bike, the more safety features the less chance of theft!

h

Volume's bmx inspired Cutter track bike is ready to handle all the urban riding you can dish out. It's amazing the amount of abuse these things can take, we never thought we'd see guys jumping stairs on a 700c wheel.

The mint version above comes alive at night by the way of glowing bright green!

NORTH AMERICAN HANDMADE BICYCLE SHOW COVERAGE>>> Drew shot a bunch of pics from this year's show, click the link below to see all the beautiful bikes.

34

For the past three years, I have attended the North American Hand Built Bike Show. The first was Portland.,second Indianapolis and this year, Richmond. Now we all know, there are trade shows and there are bike shows. Then there is the The North American Hand Built Show. Through the door, you are immediately hit by the hum of conversation. The attention to detail and colors, on these bikes, are stunning !! Some builders booths are like walking into a living room(Signal Cycles), others are like their shop( Vanilla Bicycle Company and Bilenky). Then there are the builders, such as, Richard Sachs, David Kirk, Dario and Sacha. These guys are masters of their craft . What's more amazing is that these folks are so extremely accessible. Naturally, some are more willing to talk more than others. By nature of such events, almost all builders are on top of there game. Like Ellis, Signal, Engin, Crumpton, IF, Villin, Zancanato, Black Sheep, naming a few. Other luminaries seen were Molly Cameron, Jeremy Dunn, from Embrocation/Rapha, Rob Vandermark , Ben Serrota, Tom Kellogg, Justin Spinelli, DiNuicci. Conspicusly missing were Bruce Gordon,Peter Weigle, Ira Ryan, Tony Peiria, Courage Mfg. One thing that I left the show with, is the sense that we live in the Golden Age of hand made bicycles! Some consider computers are the future, but not for me. Computers may aid in the design, but the deft touch and the keen eye of these builders never fail to warm my heart. Hand made bicycles are like art - that you can both enjoy and ride through out your life. Hand made bicycles are one of life's simple luxuries.

March 2nd, 2010

NEW IN TODAY>>> In the Brooks tradition, their grips are made of natural leather, the same long wearing leather used for our saddle tops. Each grip is made with a stack of leather washers cut from the scrap of our saddle tops. These washers are held together by 3 spokes, enabling the grip to be adjusted to the desired length. The standard length of each grip is 130 mm, but each grip can be shortened to the desired length independently.

f

We also received some new stainless steel bottles from Klean Kanteen. The Classic bottle is made from high quality, 18/8, food-grade stainless steel that's totally free of BPA and other toxins. Because stainless steel itself is safe, they don't need to coat the inside of the bottle with a plastic or epoxy lining. No matter how many times you refill it, no matter what you put into it, your Klean Kanteen will keep your drinks fresh, crisp and clean tasting. We have several different colors for you to choose from too!

q2

We've updated our product page with most of the brands we have access to and will be updating it regularly. Being a small shop we can't have everything here, but we can make special orders and usually get it within 1-3 days. The best part is that you don't have to pay additional shipping! We order from nearly every distributor in the bicycle industry so chances are we can find that hard to locate item. Give us a call or send us an email if you need something specific.

It's hard to think about not being able to go to a store and get that hard to find CD you've been wanting. Louisville's famous Ear x Tacy needs a little support to get through tough times and the age of digital music. We can remember the first time we stepped foot inside the huge store containing any type of music you could ever wish for. Music has always been a very good motivator when getting out and riding. If you have a little extra cash stop in and pick a cd up. We suggest Black Mountain, The Builders and the Butchers, and Grizzly Bear since they're the newest cd's being played in the shop recently. We've also had Radiohead's OK Computer on heavy repeat, deffinently a must have. The Louisville Dirt Club is selling a frame which the sales will go to purchasing new cd's, you can even help John pick the tunes.

We found this over at F**k gas list of the ten coolest roads to ride on earth. Be prepared to see some of the most amazing roads ever!

Profile Racing has made quality bmx components for years. They make the best bmx crank sets in the business and were the first company to offer a bmx cassette hub. SRAM/Truvativ compatible bottom brackets from Chris King have finally arrived here at the shop. You can now upgrade your sram/truvativ crank set to a new Chris King bottom bracket for the smoothest pedaling possible. The Chris King BB delivers every benefit you've come to expect from King and in the wide array of colors only King can do.

An available grease injection tool allows the bearings to be purged of existing grease and debris and new grease run through. What better way to maximize the life of your bearings than to do routine maintenance? Especially when it's this easy.

Racers take note! With the Chris King bottom bracket and injection tool, you can train day-to-day with a durable high-viscosity grease and race with a light, fast-rolling low-viscosity grease or oil.

w2

Here's a exploded diagram of the set up, the BB comes with several spacers to adapt to different frames.

w1

Also new are the No Tubes ZTR 335 rims. No Tubes original design eliminates the traditional bead hook and uses a new bead socket technology. It moves the sidewall of the rim down by 2-3mm. By eliminating the bead hook and lowering the sidewall by 2-3mm they reduce the weight of the rim. Some of this material can be used in the center part of the rim making it stronger and stiffer. This design will help reduce the strain on the tire bead while creating a tighter seal. With these short sidewalls the tire should not hit the rim and pinch flat as often as standard rims, either with or without tubes. This design will allow you to run lower pressures and use 4mm more of the tire than ever before. The tire will have larger air volume giving you better traction than any rim in the world. They're also pretty light at 355 grams.

r37

Here's a new tire in the shop, the Hutchinson Toro features more open lateral knobs that dig in better. Low knobs on the top of the tire to optimize grip and help shed mud. HARDSKIN tech consists of a flexible dense textile grid that reinforces the casing. Placed on the sidewalls, Hardskin increases the puncture resistance of the tire without affecting comfort or performance.

Kona's Stuff dirt jumper comes with a Marzocchi Dirt Jump Two fork with a 20mm thru-axle, hydraulic disc brakes and shadow style Shimano Deore derailleurs. The stuff has a sloped top tube and a short rear end making it easier to throw around. This bike went together very well and you can tell every part is meant to take the abuse from jumping. We are still trying to figure out how they offer such a nice bike with a price tag at $999.99

r4

This product went very quick when we first got it in, Caffelatex is back in stock here at OYLC. All of our first time buyers are very happy with it, try it out next time you set up your tubeless tires.

New from Bonk Breaker are the peanut butter and jelly bar, homestyle baking meets sports nutrition. They bake every week, so all bonk breakers are shipped out within 5 days "out of the oven"

q4

Northwave's Tribute Tri shoe is designed for the serious athlete with performance in mind. A carbon sole makes for good energy transfer and the strap ready feature makes strapping in a breeze when in a hurry.

r8

We had a bike in here today with the new XX group from SRAM. We've been very anxious to get a bike in here and play around with the heavily anticipated new group. After going over the whole bike we amazed by all the features XX offers. We'll first start off with the full carbon crank set which is available in two different Q factors. 156 is the standard for road and 165 is the standard for moutain, this allows you to feel comfortable when switching from your mtn to road bike. There are three different chainring combos... 26-39,28-42, and 30-45 allowing for a good range of ratios. Several bb configurations(GXP, pressfit GXP, BB30, and pressfit 30)are available and Speed Works Swiss Ceramic bearings are what you get stock!

Now on to the front derailuer which is what mechanics and riders around the world have been waiting for, no matter what gear you are in there is no way the chain will rub the ft. derailuer. They also make it to fit all bikes whether you need a top or bottom pull, in all the usual sizes of course. There are also different versions to match up with the different chainring ratios. The special ramping on the chainrings make for super smooth shifts plus add the double pin feature on the rings which lift the outer and inner link up to the big ring.

r35

The XX rear derailluer is specifically designed for use with the 2x10 set up. Sealed ceramic pulleys are very durable and are contained in a carbon fiber cage.

r36

Up front you will see somthing new, a hydralic lock out remote that can be mounted on the left or right side. The extremely powerfull elixir style brake with taper bore technology are gaurenteed to slow you down when in need. The XX trigger shifter mounts directly to the lever and can be moved to several different locations for different riding styles. The carbon fiber lever can be positioned for a different feel also.

r34

XX disc brakes are vey innovative. A magnesium caliper keeps the weight down while oversized pistons give you more stopping power. The rotor is designed with weight savings in mind too, the two piece contsruction is made up of an aluminum 7075 center with a stainless steel rotor.

r33

One of the coolest things about the XX group is the XX cassette. The aluminum large cog is replacable while the rest of the cassette is machined from a solid piece of steel allowing for longer life. Don't think it's heavy though, a 11-36 cass only weighs 208 grams!

r32

This is exactly what we expected from SRAM, everything truly works together making for the best ride possible. Even if this isn't the group for you there are a ton of features that make sense, hopefully SRAM will work some of these ideas into other future products. The complete group wieght comes in at 2300 grams. Jeff from SRAM left some of the 2010 catalogues here so take a look at their other offerings next time your in the shop.

If your looking for a light weight, stiff crank set the Vuma Quad from Zipp is your answer. The set here comes with the ceramic bearing option for super smooth pedaling. Zipp designed the crank set with a four bolt chain ring which they find to be stiffer. You can use normal road gearing or compact gearing, they make rings for both styles to mount on the 110 bcd. The Vuma Quad is bb30 compatible making it even more adaptable. The total weight including bb is 570 grams.

We had a good year here at the shop! We'd like to thank everyone for the continued support, having us fix your bikes, and letting us build some awesome bike we'll never forget. We have a lot of plans for 2010 so stay tuned to our site for all the things to come.

Here's a hot looking new design for the Selle San Marco Aspide saddle, you really can't go wrong with white.

Paul's Melvin is a chain tensioner that mounts to the detailer hanger of frames with vertical dropouts. A tightly coiled spring and two jockey wheels maintain good chain tension while allowing the use of more than one chain ring up front.

December 30th, 2009

We will be closing early tomorrow at 2 p.m. and will be closed Friday.

Here's the last build of the year to come out of the shop, a new Ellsworth Evolve 29er' was put together today piece by piece. It's the best feeling when you get to assemble a bike one part at a time, you really know that everything gets done correctly. This bike went together like a dream and the excellent craftsmanship that Ellsworth is know for was seen in every step along the way.

w7

Top of the line parts from Easton, SRAM, Thomson, and Avid make up the front end. Carbon Easton Monkey Lite bars provided a place for the Sram X9 shifters to rest along with the Avid Elixir brakes for superior stopping power. Locked-On Lizard Skins charger grips feel really good and are ready for all the white knuckle rides to come.

w9

Ellsworth doesn't do anything normal, hence the custom WTB saddle.

e2

Chris King bottom bracket was the obvious choice for super smooth spinning when it came to the cranks.

w8

The other obvious part to include in this build was the Chris King headset. It's weird not seeing the bright white king logo on these things anymore, but as they say "change is good" and the sotto voce King blended right into the bike along with the Fox Fork.

e3

Ellsworth rims are very wide allowing for a strong wheel set yet very light due to the special aluminum they use. Kenda Nevegal tires come on almost every Ellsworth and guarantee your bike being able to hook up when in need.

e1

Straight pull Ellsworth hubs create an even stronger wheel, sealed bearings provide for an extremely smooth ride, and a quick engaging free hub make getting through the hardest technical sections a breeze.

It's that time of year again to pull out the trainer. We have the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine in stock. It’s the perfect workout partner for sprints to intervals to all-day cruising. Quiet. Smooth. And like every Kinetic Trainer, 100% leak-proof. The power calibration gives you true outdoor simulation. The automatic resistance adjusts as you change speeds. Stop in and try it out for yourself.

r1

Winter is also the time when people take trips to ride other places, whether it be an indoor skate park or heading south in search of dry trails. Saris makes the bones rear rack in several different colors. We've been selling these racks for years and they fit on almost every type of vehicle. Large rubber feet keep your car paint intact and allow for a very stable bike rack.

r26

The Thelma is an alternative to traditional hitch mount bike racks. The days of sliding bikes over the rack are gone, simply place your bike in the wheel trays and strap it down with the ratchet straps. You also don't have to worry about scratching your car or your bike.

r27

Hands are very important to keep warm, but you can't forget about your toes. PI booties work amazing!

December 9th, 2009

Caffélatex has arrived at OYLC! Caffélatex is a truly innovative tyre sealant: the first of its advantages over standard latex-based sealants comes from a foaming agent (Actifoam™), activated by wheel movement.Centrifugal force drives standard latex-based sealants against the outer circumference of the tyre. Caffélatex foaming action causes it to fill the tyre's entire internal cavity , making it much more effective against sidewall punctures. Its fast sealing action makes Caffélatex ideal for MTB and road tubeless, tubular and standard tyres: it repairs punctures up to 6mm (mtb) and 3mm (road).

Caffélatex contains no ammonia allowing this product to be 100% rim and tire friendly. Latex based sealants with ammonia can be harmfull to untreated rims and spots where wear penetrates the anodization. See the article here to learn about the ammonia problem and watch this video to see how it gets installed.

We have the injector here if you need us to install Caffélatex into your wheel set or we have them for sale.

q6

This comparison shows how the foaming action of Caffélatex works.

q8

Here's an affordable hardtail from Kona featuring FSA Cranks, Rock Shox 100mm fork, Shimano Hydralic brakes and SLX read derailleur, and Maxxis Ignitor tires. The Cinder Cone uses aluminum butted tubing to lighten things up.

Holidays are very exciting around the bike shop, we get to build awesome bikes almost daily. This custom Fit was picked piece by piece.

dak2

Green and white spokes were an obvious choice and they gave the bike a very good look.

TRAIL MAINTENANCE: sheduled for O' Bannon Woods on Sunday December 13th. Plans are to meet at the camp ground at 10 a.m. A group is meeting here at the shop at 9 a.m. to caravan over, every one is welcome to meet here and car pool/follow us.

The potential for an epic trail system at O' Bannon is extremely high, the park is enormous...26,000 acres! To put that in perspective, Otter Creek was just over 3,000 acres. The drive is also reasonable, a short forty minute trip from downtown is all it takes. Come on out and help, tools will be provided.

k4

This one is for the ladies... Kona has several bikes designed specifically for women. The Lisa 120 Deluxe is a 5" travel bike made with a light Scandium butted frame. The rockers are magnesium to decrease even more wieght. When it come to Kona there's always a nice componet group on each bike and they don't dissapoint on this bike at all. RockShox Recon 335 fork for the front and a Fox Float RP2 for the rear gets the suspension right. A Mavic Crossride wheel set rolls light and fast while the Shimano hydralic disc brakes slow your ride when in need.

d4

We also recieved more bikes from Fit today. Fit Completes have been very popular this holiday season. Each bike is ramp ready right out of the box! All entry level bikes on up come with sealed bottom bracket, 3 peice cranks, sealed 9 tooth cassette hub, and a sealed integrated headset. The small 25 tooth sprocket stays out of the way during grinds and when rolling into ramps

The Park 1 features a Snafu gyro to allow all the barspins and tailwhips possible. As always our bikes come with a year of free adjustments.

v3

The next level up is the Park 2 and it features a longer top tube for taller riders along with bigger bars. A sealed front hub is also an upgrade found on the Park 2.

v4

The Street 1 comes with four pegs and Wellgo plastic pedals. This bike is waiting to be ridden around town searching for new street spots.

v6

The Tech 1 in white has been the one bike that every one loves. You usually don't get a bike this good looking until you spend over 600$, just a little over half that and the Tech 1 can be yours.

v8

Last but not least is the Trail 1. Don't let the name fool you though this bike is ready for all the ramps, street, and dirt riding you can dish out. The trail series is inspired by style cat Mike Aitken and each bike is styled after one of his own.

We talked about how hard it would be to wheelie the Kona Ute when we had one in the shop, basically we though it was impossible. This guy however didn't give up. Check it out.

December 3rd, 2009

The 24th Annual Bardstown Road Aglow is this Saturday. Businesses from Lexington to Taylorsville road will be open, along with all the normal bars and bands. The festival starts at dusk and goes long into the night, stop by the shop visit us.

The thought of being doored sends chills down every cyclist's spine. Watch this creative public service announcement and remember to keep an eye out for swinging doors.

I saw this on PINP where they also mention:“In other countries, drivers are taught to open their doors with their opposite hand, forcing them to look out the window into traffic for cyclists and other drivers. It’s a really simple method to ensure the safety of those around you.” NOT A BAD IDEA.

We received two frames from Ellsworth this week, one is being built for someone and the other is for stock. Come take a look at them asap.

The Truth is Ellsworth's legendary xc four inch travel dual suspension frame with over sixteen years of use. The new models for 2010 feature even lighter tubing and Ellsworth's Instant Center Tracking Suspension Design.

b8

What a sweet paint job!!! No man this isn't paint... it's anodized right to the frame, no more scratching or chipped paint! Only Ellsworth can make a bike look this unique.

b6

The Rainforest Green color way is part of a program that helps Ellsworth promote environmental awareness starting with their solar powered, fully sustainable office in San Diego.

b7

Note the badge on the down tube... that's right made right here in America.

b9

Ellsworth logo cnc'd at the top of the seat stays, very subtle yet bad ass.

v1

The Evolve is Ellsworth's new 29er full suspension xc bike. It now features lighter tubing and keeps the ICT suspension technology.

b1

This model is the smoke color way, you have to come in and see how good it looks.

n9

The Evolve is made right in America, not many companies can claim this any more.

n8

ICT(Instant Center Tracking) is the way that the virtual pivot of the suspension tracks the chain force line so that at any point during travel your energy is always moving the bike forward. This allows the suspension to move freely, it's not constrained by a smart shock or remote lock out which results in better bump absorption and better ride quality. Since the wheels are always able to move you get the best traction and control while not receiving any energy loss due to the ICT. This probably sounds a little confusing but you can watch a full video about it on the Ellsworth site under the tech tab at the top. They even compare it to other suspension designs and show why it works better.

b2

Look at the detail of the cnc'd rocker, Ellsworth frames feature sealed bearing pivots!

November 11th, 2009

Sorry for the lack of post lately, we've been out riding a ton before this nice weather goes away. My girlfriend is doing a college project where they have to make things out of cardboard, she found these photos on the internet where people had made bikes. We thought they were pretty awesome and they needed to be seen by some cyclist.

m9

Some one put in a lot of work... notice the detail with all the bolts and pivots. How about the chain, any idea on how long it took to make it?

m8

Here's something else to fill your daily web browsing routine, IF's Blog has some really cool bikes they've been posting up among random happenings around their shop that are pretty entertaining.

c4

November 5th, 2009

Looks like plans are being finalized to turn Champions Park into a dog run park with a closed fence. We love dogs here at the shop but are bummed to see this facility limited to dogs when it is such a great cyclo cross venue. Hopefully there will be a new course that can hold events such as the USGP

With the changing future of Champions Park you better get out and ride the course a couple more times and get ready for Storm The Greens on December 6th.

n1

Here's another teaser for New World Disorder 10: Dust and Bones. Show time is set for 7:30 this Friday night so make sure to be here for one of the best videos of all time!

After NWD 10 we will be showing Fit's new video STAY FIT. We'll push play at 9 p.m. and let the good times roll.

l6

November 4th, 2009

Come out this Friday night for New World Disorder 10 Dust and Bones, could this be the best mountain bike film ever made? Get down to the shop at 7:30 and decide for yourself, we can guarantee you won't be disappointed and you'll have a good time.

Here's two wheel sets that we enjoy riding very much and now you can try them out for yourself. The first is a mountain bike set featuring Industry Nine hubs hand built to DT Swiss rims. They got put to the test this summer and surpassed expectations. Quick Engagement combined with very low drag make for a very enjoyable ride.

c5

Next up is a DT Swiss 240 hub set hand laced to a Mavic Open Pro rim with DT Swiss Competition spokes. These wheels roll extremely fast thanks to DT's super smooth bearings. Come by and talk to us about taking one of these wheel sets out on a demo.

n4

November 3rd, 2009

It gets dark at 6 p.m. now unfortunately, don' worry though we have a ton of lights for you to be seen and light the way.

d8

NiteRider's very affordable Mi Newt mini USB is an extremely bright light. A friend let me borrow his to ride trails with and it did an amazing job, they also offer it with a helmet mount.

f1

We have a bunch of new mountain bike videos to get you through the winter, also don't forget to come out for the NWD 10 premiere this firday.

m3

v2

October 29th, 2009

New bikes from Norco arrived yesterday, we have the Scorcher which is an entry level mountain bike at a very reasonable price.

f5

The Santiago is your classic cruiser bike with 7 speed gearing and dual hand brakes. Stylish fenders are included and will keep you dry on the rainy days to come.

f4

DT Swiss built the Mon Chasseral wheel set for the rider wanting a very light set of wheels. Climbs will now be a breeze with DT's light weight rim, double butted spokes, and light ratchet system hub that features sealed bearings that are extremely smooth.

n5

Unlike the 80 year old eccentric principle used on standard quick releases, the RWS builds up clamping force by tightening a bolt connection with a lever. The lever can then be raised and rotated into any desired position. The clamping force of the RWS is up to 50 % higher than what can be achieved with a common quick release. This is not just safer, but also makes your wheel connection to the frame or fork firmer and therefore stiffer. This becomes particularly apparent with disc brakes.

n6

3T Ergosum Pro Drop Handlebars are shallower than most bars, and the shape is better for smaller hands with a redesigned bend for easy adjustment of the handhold on brake hoods.

d7

Here's the light you need for night trail riding. The Pro 1200 is a 1200 lumen light that comes with everything you need... quick release battery, 8 step battery gauge, and handlebar/helmet mounts.

f2

October 21st, 2009

PHOTO OF THE DAY: This is a customers downhill/freeride bike waiting for some new parts in the shop.

m6

Kona bikes are being built up almost daily here at the shop! The Kula Deluxe pictured here is actually a O9' and are on sale right now along with all of the other 09' bikes. This bike has a ton of high end parts... Mavic Cross Trail wheels, Maxxis Ignitor tires, Rock Shox Reba SL, XT shifters, XT shadow rear derailluer, Shimano SLX cranks and hydraulic brakes. This is an awesome components group and they went together very nicely with the Scandium Kona frame.

d3

Surly has some of the coolest frames available right now. The Pacer is a TIG welded steel frame with a 1-1/8" head tube and a brazed fork. This is an affordable option for some one wanting to assemble a road bike on a budget, the smooth ride of steel is just an added bonus! The Pacer is designed to accept up to 700x32 tires or 28's with fenders. Nine sizes are offered allowing for a perfect fit and a green color is an alternative to the bright silver bullet.

l9

October 20th, 2009

Here's a new map tool the crew over at Bike Louisville have put together. Ride the City will allow you to enter your destination and give you a safe route to ride.

l3

It looks like bike symbols are being painted on areas where you can stop at a light and it will now notice a cyclist is there and turn to green. The days of waiting forever are hopefully becoming a thing of the past.

m5

This has been one of the most popular bikes we've sold this year. Surly's Cross Check is ready for just about anything you could imagine doing on a bike... light touring, commuting, or even single track riding. All types of riding will be very forgiving due to the steel frame set.

l8

October 17th, 2009

What ever type of cycling you choose to do this weekend, we remind you to PAY ATTETION. The guy's mind in the video below is obviously on another planet. This has to be the most pain full crash I've even seen and he just gets up like it's no big deal.

October 16th, 2009

k1

Want to ride to work with others in your area or help out a new commuter just getting started? Ticket to Ride has just launched a new bike pool registration tool to help. It connects you with a list of people near you who have similar commutes and destinations, and who are interested in cycling with another commuter! Register now.

October 14th, 2009

Today's cool new item comes from Kona bicycles. The Unit is a single speed steel 29er' frame and fork. If your wondering about the 29" craze this is an affordable way to try it out without any decrease in value. A mix of brand name parts are what you'll find on this sweet ride...Avid disc brakes, Maxxis Ignitor tires, and a FSA crank with bash gaurd make for the perfect single speed. The feature that we're impressed with most is the rear hub, it's a ss cassette instead of the usual freewheel found on most bikes. No longer do you have to deal with the high and low spots found in chains created by out of round freewheels!

d6

Tension is created by a sliding rear drop out. You get to keep the ease of pulling your wheel out via a quick release but don't have to worry about it moving.

d5

Mavic offers a tubualar rim called the Reflex and we built a set up today with these rasta colored nipples.

d9

The Pearl Izumi rep came by today with the new line, there's a lot of good looking stuff out from PI this year. We'll have some warmer weather products coming in weekly, but if there's a special item your looking for let us know and we can order it for you. Click the link for their website or take a look at the new catalog next time you're in the shop.

October 10th, 2009

Fresh in this week are bikes from Kona and Fit. Kona's Jake the Snake is your best choice when it comes to cyclo cross Everything went together very well and the bikes rides awesome. It's hard to find so many name brands on a bike at this level, however Kona managed to accomplish the task very well.

d2

Up front you have a Kona cockpit with Shimano 10sp 105 shifters.

c8

FSA Gossamer cranks and a 105 shifter hold down the shifting in the front of the drive train.

c9

Kona's Carbon fork with Kore brakes make for a nice set up.

d1

Mavic wheels, Continental Speed King tires, a 105 derailleur keep things smooth and round up the awesome value that is Jake the Snake.

c7

The Jake is perfect for any cyclocross rider or some one who wants to make their ride to work more fun. Come by and take these new bikes for a cruise around the phoenix hill obstacle course.

l5

It's hard to go wrong with brown leather accessories on a bike, All City offers their double straps in brown and we have them in stock.

m2

Paul makes some of the coolest parts for your bike ever made. The Chain Keeper does exactly what the name states, it works with both single and 1x multi speed drive trains. The main advantage is that it will keep your chain on when hopping over barriers and will work with many chain lines and chain rings.

f9

We showed you the dropout saver from wheels manufacturing a while ago which will replace most broken dropouts. This can definitely make you some friends when you have the answer to keep someone from walking. This multi tool comes with the dropout saver along with the usual allens, torx, and screwdrivers.

k7

Here's an alternative to bar tape found on most bikes today. Viva cloth tape comes in a number of colors and is something a little different for your hands to hold on to.

k6

PHOTO OF THE DAY: This is a customers downhill/freeride bike waiting for some new parts in the shop.

6

Kona bikes are being built up almost daily here at the shop! The Kula Deluxe pictured here is actually a O9' and are on sale right now along with all of the other 09' bikes. This bike has a ton of high end parts... Mavic Cross Trail wheels, Maxxis Ignitor tires, Rock Shox Reba SL, XT shifters, XT shadow rear derailluer, Shimano SLX cranks and hydraulic brakes. This is an awesome components group and they went together very nicely with the Scandium Kona frame.

30

Surly has some of the coolest frames available right now. The Pacer is a TIG welded steel frame with a 1-1/8" head tube and a brazed fork. This is an affordable option for some one wanting to assemble a road bike on a budget, the smooth ride of steel is just an added bonus! The Pacer is designed to accept up to 700x32 tires or 28's with fenders. Nine sizes are offered allowing for a perfect fit and a green color is an alternative to the bright silver bullet.

Here's a new map tool the crew over at Bike Louisville have put together. Ride the City will allow you to enter your destination and give you a safe route to ride.

48

It looks like bike symbols are being painted on areas where you can stop at a light and it will now notice a cyclist is there and turn to green. The days of waiting forever are hopefully becoming a thing of the past.

5

This has been one of the most popular bikes we've sold this year. Surly's Cross Check is ready for just about anything you could imagine doing on a bike... light touring, commuting, or even single track riding. All types of riding will be very forgiving due to the steel frame set.

52

October 17th, 2009

What ever type of cycling you choose to do this weekend, we remind you to PAY ATTETION. The guy's mind in the video below is obviously on another planet. This has to be the most pain full crash I've even seen and he just gets up like it's no big deal.

October 16th, 2009

54

Want to ride to work with others in your area or help out a new commuter just getting started? Ticket to Ride has just launched a new bike pool registration tool to help. It connects you with a list of people near you who have similar commutes and destinations, and who are interested in cycling with another commuter! Register now.

32

Tension is created by a sliding rear drop out. You get to keep the ease of pulling your wheel out via a quick release but don't have to worry about it moving.

31

Mavic offers a tubualar rim called the Reflex and we built a set up today with these rasta colored nipples.

35

29

Up front you have a Kona cockpit with Shimano 10sp 105 shifters.

26

FSA Gossamer cranks and a 105 shifter hold down the shifting in the front of the drive train.

27

Kona's Carbon fork with Kore brakes make for a nice set up.

28

Mavic wheels, Continental Speed King tires, a 105 derailleur keep things smooth and round up the awesome value that is Jake the Snake.

25

The Jake is perfect for any cyclocross rider or some one who wants to make their ride to work more fun. Come by and take these new bikes for a cruise around the phoenix hill obstacle course.

24

2010 Fit complete bikes are here! The Tech 1 is a entry level bike with very high end parts, it's not often that you see a bike look this good that comes with a price tag to match. All the bikes below come with sealed 3pc cranks, sealed cassette hub, 9/25 drive train, and integrated headsets.

18

The Park 2 is a little higher end bike compete with sealed hubs, 3 pc cranks, and Odyssey Twisted pedals.

17

The Trail 2 is ready for all the dirt jumps you can build or the local skate park. Red Alienation rims make this a very cool ride.

20

Fit's Tech 2.5 features a longer 20.75" top tube for taller riders and has removable brake mounts, Fit pc pedals, and a Fit plastic pivotal seat.

19

October 9th, 2009

Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park is scheduled to open the 17th. With all the nasty weather we have in our future this is one trip you must put on your ca lender. Ray and his crew have built a ton of new stuff to ride and you can see it in the video below. Anyone in on a OYLC trip to Cleveland?

October 6th, 2009

Introducing the 2010 SRAM Force group! Force uses technology from Red for 2010... new unidirectional carbon cranks, wider skeletonized dual pivot design brakes, and the option of use with a BB30. Force now offers more features for the same affordable price.

50

It's hard to go wrong with brown leather accessories on a bike, All City offers their double straps in brown and we have them in stock.

2

Paul makes some of the coolest parts for your bike ever made. The Chain Keeper does exactly what the name states, it works with both single and 1x multi speed drive trains. The main advantage is that it will keep your chain on when hopping over barriers and will work with many chain lines and chain rings.

44

We showed you the dropout saver from wheels manufacturing a while ago which will replace most broken dropouts. This can definitely make you some friends when you have the answer to keep someone from walking. This multi tool comes with the dropout saver along with the usual allens, torx, and screwdrivers.

59

Here's an alternative to bar tape found on most bikes today. Viva cloth tape comes in a number of colors and is something a little different for your hands to hold on to.

58

Colder weather is coming and we have a full stock of winter gloves to keep your hands from falling off.

60

10

Last, but not least are these new bells we got in this week.

October 1st, 2009

It's pretty hard to find a bike better fit for carrying all your needs than the Long Haul Trucker. Throw all the bags, fenders, or racks on it you like and get out for the exploration of your life. Click here to check out Surly's new redesigned web site for more info.

y9

Here's some more pictures from Interbike, click the BMX link at the top to see what the twenty inch world has in the works.

t9

We've had so many people ask about colored spokes for moutain bikes, Wheelsmith is now offering sizes for mountain bike wheels in the colors below. Let us know if you want to give your bike a new look. I'm thinking these are going to go pretty quick when they become available.

u6

The Ellsworth booth was probably the busiest of the show as you can see from this photo. Pictured here is the new Enlightenment, an all carbon hard tail frame that is available in 26 or 29.

w6

The Enlightenment's dropout is easily swapped to convert your frame for single speed action.

e1

This had to be the coolest looking bike at their booth, it's hard to go wrong with flames that look this good.

w8

The Roots is Ellsworth cross bike that rides amazing and looks good as an added bonus.

w9

I always like when companies do these cut away displays.

INTERBIKE 2009:

I got back from Interbike this weekend and must say that I am very glad to be back in the great state of kentucky. More than three days in sin city can make you want to come home very fast, that and the fact that when i was pedaling at this wall it was 104 degrees! I have a couple things to show here on the site from the trip, the first is this photo showing that we are filming for a new Movement video. This project will take some time, but good things come to those who wait.

t5

The second thing that we are very proud to announce is that we will now be carrying Kona bikes. Kona has a full line of really nice rides that are each unique in their own way, it's hard to think of a big bike brand that offers as many steel options as they do. Our first shipment of 2010 bikes are on the way and you can expect to see more bikes trickle in before winter.

r2

The Kona Ute is the perfect bike to utilize the engine we're all born with. The 2010 model comes with front AND a rear disc brake with a mount that allows for hassle free access to your important saddle bags.

r6

Kona's Jake the Snake is the best deal right out of the box for any cyclocross rider, perfect for the first timer or someone set on a US championship. The Snake comes with powerful Kore brakes, a carbon fork, Mavic wheels, and a 105 derailleur.

r4

Here's two more cross rides from Kona. The Jake is a perfect entry level bike available in several sizes and now features a taller head tube for a more comfortable ride. Of course Kona made sure to offer a bike for the single speed crew, the major one has all the simplicity that is found in a 1x1 setup along with a carbon fork.

r3

Instead of having all, how about doing all with the Abra Cadabra. This is the perfect bike for xc, all mountain, and technical descents. I've heard lots of talk about this bike and was pretty bummed about not making it out in time to give it a go at the dirt demo. All the buzz is probably due to the fact that it's a sub 30lbs bike that features Scandium tubing and four inches of travel with the capability to switch to six inches when such demands arise.

r1

Imagine a mid-to-long travel bike that's designed to excel when it's climbing or pedaling really hard: nice linear rear travel with steeper head and seat angles and a more upright riding position.

Now imagine that same bike when it's going downwards, braking or hitting big bumps. Not ideal. Well, imagine that same bike with the ability to change its rear travel: more progressive, with softer suspension in the initial stages of travel. Not only that, imagine the travel on this bike could lengthen, while its geometry changed to slacker head and seat angles, with an improved wheel path.

The Magic Link is constantly reacting to all of the forces acting on it, and it's not like an on/off switch. It's never "stuck" in one mode. It just does what you need. Sometimes it is in-between modes, or cycling between modes, but there's no sudden feeling of change, such as an abrupt alteration of the bike's geometry. The rider is unaware of what's going on, just having fun, riding like a bat out of hell, up and down. That, friends, is magic.

r5

Independant Fabrications brought out their newly built grass track bike. Grass track racing was popular throughout Europe in the 40's and 50's and was the motivation for creating this beautiful bike.

e7

Here's the "join or die" paintwork located on the top tube, this is totally right up the rebel alley of IF and shows that they can make whatever kind of bike they wish.

e6

Here's another bike from IF. This one matches the color of Co2 inflator's made by Genuine Innovations and was on display at their booth.

e5

Here's another wild creation from a small builder. Vicious Cycle's Thunder Wing was designed for adventure races through Alaska and will take you where to other bike can.

u5

The Groover is a four inch travel bike sporting a custom steel tubing front triangle and a Titus Racer X rear end.

u3

Here's the Mambo Sun. It rolls on 650b wheels which is the happy middle of the 26" vs. 29" debate. It is also available in a Single Speed version.

u4

We've sold a lot of the Crosscheck bikes form Surly this year. I ran into one of the guys recently and he said that he'd lost 40lbs due to riding it everyday.

y8

Here's a bright red version of the De Rosa Neo Primato that we built up recently.

t6

All City is releasing new track frame and complete bikes this fall and this candy red beauty is just one in their new line.

q1

I was very excited about being able to get on a bike with Sram's new XX group and see how it felt. I was happy to feel the same strong clicks that are present with their shifters and love the idea of having an even wider range of gear ratios.

y7

Here's an affordable hub upgrade that won't compromise performance. Sram's new hub set rolls on sealed bearings which is a huge advantage over the unsealed stock hubs that come on many entry level bikes or their competitors "after market" wheel sets. We're not saying there's anything wrong with that technology, but we do see a lot of riders who's hubs have came loose unknowingly continue to ride them resulting in damage to the hub.

y5

The return to sender shifter are something we hope to see on time trial and triathlon bikes in the future. When you shift they snap back to their original position.

y6

It's good to see some color options coming to the drive train world. Expect to see some good matching bikes coming out of here soon!

y2

Here's the light weight mountain rim from Edge. I saw these on all the custom made bikes at the show.

w5

Chrome had a cool booth with all of their bags and their new shoe line which we can get by the way.

q5

I like the look of these flat fenders, especially these ones from Axiom which feature a reflective strip for the people who are bad at recharging their blinky lights.

q2

The Belgium helmet maker, Lazer had all of their helmets on display. They have a model for almost every type of cycling and I can't start to tell you how much I like my 02 helmet.

t2

September 22nd, 2009

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, we've had a ton of repair work in here and we are very appreciative of the continued support. Thanks to everyone who continues to bring repair work in for us.

We have got some new product in the shop, first is the B15 Swallow from Brooks.

q3

Here's the solution to single speed converted mountain bikes. The White Industries ENO hub has an elliptical axle that rotates to tension your chain. Their freewheel is top of the line... they use a sealed bearing which makes for no high/low spots. It comes in the standard 16-22 sizes or like the one you see here with a 16/18 or 17/19 that you can switch the chain for different ratios.

u7

Here's a new offering from Giro, the Lusso road glove is padded in all the right ares to keep your hands from going numb.

e3

Also new in this week is this bright green helmet from Giro.

e4

September 8th, 2009

The rain cleared out for the Mayor's bike ride this Labor Day and we were able to service a good number of bikes before they took off on the fourteen mile adventure. Click here to see some more images from the event.

w4

September 3rd, 2009

We had a great turn out for the Mike Lennig’s ride. Thanks to all who came out.

e2

NBL Grands are back in Louisville this weekend at Tom Sawyer park. The action starts this Friday and goes on until Sunday. World Champion and Olympic athlete Kyle Bennett stopped by the shop this week, here's a look into one of the worlds fastest racers.

t1

Chris King makes a bmx hub that is as smooth as the one on your mountain bike.

r8

Shimano DXR cranks with a King bottom bracket are the driving force of this sweet ride.

r7

r9

Here's a new light from Nite Rider, the Minewt Mini USB is a very light weight model with a three hour run time. It mounts to a handlebar or helmet and you can also charge it from your computer by using the including USB cable.

t7

We are now stocking Speedplay pedals, come by and check out the various models.

y1

We got a new order from King Cage this week. All of their water bottle cages are back in stock along with a new stem mount for people who don't have frame mounts.

e8

We also got some of their Titanium tire levers. These are super light and take up no space in a jersey pocket.

e9

Want to give your road bike a classic look, try this cloth bar tape from Velox.

u2

With cross practice under way and the first race of the season less than twenty days away we have been getting the cross essentials back in stock...

The Challenge Grifo tire is a standard in the racing world, we will have tubular versions in as well as soon as they become available.

q4

SRAM has several cranks that are perfect for cross, the S300 gives you enhanced tooth profiles for quicker shifting and more precision.

y3

Keep the front end looking good with matching hoods and tape from Sram. These are also available in the popular white color way for cross.

y4

Here's a tape that we saw on Sue Butler's bike last year at the USGP. Lizard Skins Durasoft Polymer tape provides plenty of grip even in wet conditions.

t3

Tektro's Cr720 brake offers plenty of stopping power and mud clearance at an affordable price.

u1

Last but not least, are the all important lubes to keep your bike moving properly. Dri Slide or tri flow are great for keep those cables moving freely for smooth shifting. Tire Glue is another must have for this season, we'll be stocking several brands so will have whatever one you prefer.

q6

August 27th, 2009

Schwinntonation will be performing live at the BBC on Shelbyville road this Friday night at 7p.m. The crew from Chicago take various sounds that bicycles make and turn them into music. August 26th, 2009

I finished my new mountain bike this weekend and it rides better than I could've ever imagined. The frame is a hard tail Norco Fireball that climbs like a machine. I've had the bike built up for a couple weeks, but just recently was able to complete the project with new wheels. Come by the shop and take it for a spin or hit me up if your looking for someone to ride with.

w3

I've been wanting to try the hub set from Industry Nine all summer long and was able to build them this weekend. I used DT Swiss XR 2.4d rims to keep things light and the white was a nice option to take advantage of. This was my first time building with Dt rims and I am very impressed with their continued quality. As far as the hubs go, simply amazed! They have many common features found on high end hubs ...sealed bearings, American made, and 3 degree/120 points of engagement. What sets them apart from most is the fact that there is little to no drag right out of the box, no lazy chain resting on the chain stay. I haven't give them a full test, but things are looking very promising.

w2

Avid Elixer Cr brakes allow care free high speed runs into the corners, I've been using these for a couple months and they rule! A turn of the red barrel adjust the pad contact point kind of like a barrel adjuster on a set of v-brakes, they also feature the usual reach adjustment for the lever.

q9

The Avid Matchmaker holds Avid levers, SRAM triggers, and RockShox® PushLocTM controls, all with one tidy, light clamp allowing for more handlebar space.

w1

The new "nip-tuck" remote lock out feature on the Rock Shox Reba keeps the cable hidden in the spool for a clean look.

q7

I went with the Shimano SLX crank set for the double service life provided by a steel middle chain ring. The same hollow tech technology used on the XT cranks is applied to the SLX, but they are a little more affordable and hardly weigh any more.

q8

August 22nd, 2009

The IRONMAN is happening this coming weekend and On Your Left Cycles is ready to tune your bike for the race. Stop by or give us a call and get your bike ready to go for the event. We have a new Park Tri bike repair stand attachment and it makes servicing your bike very easy.

38

August 21st, 2009

We were very excited when these arrived in the mail today. The Classic Hub from Industry Nine are made in Asheville, North Carolina and use good old j-bend spokes. I9 hubs feature a three degree engagement system allowing near instant power transfer to the wheel as soon as you start to crank. They also have less drag than most hubs for smooth rolling on the trail. I9 also offers complete wheel sets with their own aluminum spokes that create a very stiff wheel. Spokes come in a variety of colors and thread in directly to the hub eliminating nipples on the out side of the rim which cuts down on rotational weight. Come by the shop and check these out, they'll be built up and sent out on the trail very soon.

37

August 20th, 2009

Here's some bmx riding from the Forecastle Bmx Ramp Jam. This was put together by former OYLC employee and world's tallest man Matt Ballard.

Click the Bmx tab at the top to view the full extended version.

August 19th, 2009

Looks like there won't be a race on the 23rd of August, Green River was damaged and it hasn't been resheduled. That makes the Race for the Graves the last race of the season. The event looks to be put together pretty well and the trails sound like they are pretty fun. If anyone is planning on making the hour long trip to Burlington, Ky for the season ender I would love to tag along, shoot me a call and I can gaurentee your bike will be dialed that day for the race.

55

Here's some carbon Componetry from the crew over at Edge. The MTB Riser bar is very strong, yet light coming in at 175 grams. Edge is a relatively new company with very innovative ideas and the knowledge to back them up. They have engineers that have been in the carbon indusrty for over thirty years. Click here to find out more about Edge.

7

Lizard Skin's charger grip is a new item we've been stocking in the shop. They are very comfortable and come in both regular and lock-on versions. You'll also be happy to know that they are made in America.

43

Smith sunglasses have been on a hiatus here at the shop over the past year. We are now stocking them regularly again if you need a new pair of shades.

57

August 18th, 2009

There will be a Memorial ride for fallen triathlete/father/husband John Carr, this Saturday Aug 22 @ 9AM.

Take a look at this De Rosa Neo Primato... I honestly don't know where to start with this one. De Rosa bikes are hand built in Italy and were responsible for making most of Eddy Merckx bikes. Let us know if there's a bike in their line up you like.

3

The Neo Primato is a steel lugged bike that rides like a modern frame, but keeps the classic look that it's always had.

17

18

The lugged drops contain a hand built set of Chris King hubs laced to Mavic Open Pro rims.

2

All the tubes meet up in the beautiful bottom bracket.

19

Here's the De Rosa Signature on the chain stay.

5

4

Small things like the De Rosa name in the fork are just the beginning when it comes to detail.

6

August 13th. 2009

Here's a ride coming up on the 30th of August. Meet here at the shop at 3p.m. and we'll head out to Mike Lennig's for some food and a return trip.

34

Here's a good site to take up some extra time on the internet, Failblog post some of the most random things to ever fail on the planet. There's at least one cycling fail every week like the one you see below.

35

Fresh out of Ramona, California is this new Ellsworth Evolve. This is the top of the line when it comes to mountain bikes... the Evolve features a Fox Rp23 shock for it's full suspension aluminum frame. The Fox fork uses the new QR15 thru axle for a stiff front end. Avid Elixir CR brakes allow the bike to slow down when going into the corner and believe me they stop on a dime. Twenty nine inch No Tubes rims hand built with DT spokes to Chris King hubs. We can build a bike exactly to your spec on any Ellsworth frame, let us know if there's a set up your wondering about.

21

Here's the new King hub with a QR15 thru axle. You can see the hub's diameter is larger than normal, this allows for the use of a 20mm axle if you ever wish to.

20

A blue Chris King headset ties the whole bike together and matches the blue anodized frame, Ellsworth anodizes their frames to keep them looking new and scratch free.

August 4th, 2009

What a crazy day! Mother nature can be pretty wild sometimes. Drop us an e-mail if you have any crazy commuting stories from getting stuck in the mess.

This is one of the best builds we've done lately... a Waterford steel, lugged frame built with Reynolds tubing in the great state of Wisconsin. Chris King hubs laced to campy rims with green Vittoria pave EVO tubulars keep it rolling smooth. Kent Eriksson seat post and a Campy compact crank finish the bike off right.

64

Two new bags from Chrome are here in stock for you to try out. Keep your gear dry on days like today with the weather proof Ranchero. Two back pack style straps give you plenty of support when carrying anything you can fit in the 1400 cubic inche bag. 14

Here's some tires you might not be used to seeing in our shop. We try to carry a little bit of everything out there, but if there's something you'd like to see in the shop we would love to hear some recommendations.

A friend of ours loves this tire from Maxxis. The Cormet tire uses ONE70 technology allowing for a high thread count and of course low rolling resistance even further than other race tires according to Maxxis.

44

Another high end tire from Schwalbe, the Ultremo is a race tire that comes in a variety of colors and is very puncture resistant as well.

56

The Michelin Pro 3 Race tire has the name for a reason, low rolling resistance and great grip make it a very popular race tire. They also come in a variety of colors.

45

Fizik offers a bag and light that snap right into their saddles for easy taking on and off the bike.

23

The last item new in the shop today is the very simple, yet effective Pedro's bottle opener wrench. I'm sure most people already have something like this in the garage, but you can always throw one in your road trip tool box.

53

July 29th, 2009

Here's Norco's answer to the fixed gear craze. The 2010 Spade has some very nice features that make it stand out from the usual track bike. The frame is Chromoly with a built in seat post clamp. Chrome fork to match the stem and cranks. Lots of blue parts give it some color... sealed hubs, rims, post, and bars. This bike retails right at 800$ and is available now.

51

50

Here's a sneak peak of Norco's 2010 line which will be available around September. Click here for a full article about the new 2010 Norco bikes.

46

The Judan is a belt driven 29er' running the Gates Carbon Drive belt on a Reynolds double-butted 525 frame. This bike is going to have a lot of people drooling.

47

Three new carbon road bikes are a new addition to the road line.

49

They also added two carbon cross-county hardtails this year that both feature Sram's new XX group.

48

We built up a set of the new Velocity B43 rims this week. They are an extremely strong rim that is perfect for polo and of course they are available in any color you could ever want. Expect to see these on every track bike in town by the end of summer.

62

July 24th, 2009

"I'd like to get my fork serviced, but I can't do with out my bike" we can't begin to tell you how many times we hear that. In comes the loaner fork, schedule a fork maintenance and receive a loaner fork to keep you out riding.

33

Take a look at this King hub set, on the left you have the classic ISO Rear 72 point engagement hub and on the right is the new ISO 15mm front version. Larger bearings and the use of the new 15mm thru-type axle make for a very stiff set up. You also have the capability to use a 20mm axle if you ever feel the need.

This helmet from Lazer is the best fitting helmet I've ever worn. It is very light, affordable, and comes in a number of colors. The red dial on the top cinches the strap in the back around your head for a perfect.

This weekend's Capital View mountain bike race went very well. This was my first trip down to Frankfort and I'll definitely make the short forty minute trip again. I've always heard it's the best place around to take a single speed. There's some good downhill sections and plenty of turns along with some technical sections, it would be nice to take someone here on their first mtb trip as there's nothing to intimidating. Click here for race results.

12

Here's a high end hub set from Hadley made right here in the U.S. The rear hub features very quick engagement and as with any gold part they make your bike a little cooler than before. Red and black are among other color ways.

36

Here's a 29er' rim from No Tubes that features a lower sidewall making for a stronger rim. The tire bead will also fit tighter and allow you to run lower pressure. Of course this rim has a little brother in the way of a 26" version.

58

The popular Camelbak Podium bottles just got a little cooler ...literally, the chill jacket is an insulated version that will keep your drink cold for hours.

Remember Hyper color tee's? Odyssey have taken it one step farther and applied that idea to their new color changing UV activated pedals and seats. Before we took these outside to shoot pics, these seats and pedals were actually solid white. Watch the video below to see the magic happen.

31

Here's a perfect commuter bike from Norco, the Norco VFR 3 has a lightweight aluminum frame to get you to work on time. Nice Ritchey components and the visible bright green paint round up this sweet commuter.

35

Rick from Ellsworth ended up coming by on tuesday morning with a fleet of amazing bikes. We ended up hitting the park for a test ride and dodge the few mud puddles there. The bike below was Rick's personal ride... Single Speed Rigid 29er' under 22lb's, it was his first time out on it and it was our pleasure to show him a good set of trails

24

A friend of the shop had been wanting to test one of the Evolve 29er' full suspension bikes and tuesday was the day he had been waiting for. The name of this bike fits it plain and simple, big wheels are here to stay and you'll begin to see more and more on the trail as time moves forward. I could tell that he loved the bike when he started flying through the trail and was playing around like it was his normal bike. If he didn't have to go in to work I think he might have stayed out all day.

22

I was lucky enough to take the ever popular Truth out for a ride and was extremely comfortable as soon as I got on it. It handled very well and the suspension was spot on, just what I'd expect form Ellsworth.

25

The scant is a very light road bike that has a very smooth ride to it. Scandium tubing with a carbon rear triangle make for a pretty hot bike that comes in around 15lb's.

23

The Ride has a Nuvinci Transmission hub that has an infinite number of gears, twist the dial on the handlebar for that perfect gear ratio. The hub is based on a 1490's sketch from Leonardo de Vinci. All of the parts were designed specifically for this bike and there was no slacking in the style department here as you can see. Click the link to find out more about this awesome ride.

Here's some new products week got in this week. First, are Avid's new hydraulic disc brake named the Elixir. A new larger piston provides stopping power that will allow you to fly into corners with no hesitation. The coolest feature has to be the new pad - contact point... see the red barrel, twist it to change how the brake feels! That's right, no more un-even pulling levers when you get to the trail.

1

Here's the very popular Reba from Rock Shox, several options including a 29er edition make this the perfect fork. I've ran mine through the paces and am very happy with it.

41

We received some new crank sets this week. The new Shimano SLX mountain crank is a great way to keep your wallet from being empty. It features their proven hollow tech arms. Steel inner and middle chain rings keep the cost down and prolong the life of your drive train, aluminum big ring keeps the weight down. They weigh in just an ounce under XT, strong crank set at a great price.

45

Here's something new for your road bike. Campagnolo Centaur Ultra Torque Cranks are a 2 piece design that attach in the middle of the spindle by matching up the splines. This keeps the cranks tight and very stiff.

16

Origin 8 track cranks are an affordable crank for your track bike and they come in a variety of colors.

37

Could gum walls make a come back? Challenge offers their Criterium tire in a version that will set your bike apart from every other out there. 300 tpi make for a smooth and fast ride from this light road tire.

We are very excited to announce that we will be carrying Norco Bikes this year. Norco was founded in the 60's, based out of Canada and has always strived to put together the best product possible. They offer a well rounded group of bicycles that we feel fits our shop very well. A full line of mtn, road, commuter, comfort and even some beach cruisers are the bulk of their 09' line up. We are also excited to say that they offer several kids bikes along with women specific bikes! We like to thank our customers for their continued support, you'll helped us get a new bike line when we needed one.

Below is the LRT1, this is the perfect commuter bike. Fenders keep you dry for rainy days like today and the rear rack will let you carry everything but the kitchen sink. We have many more bikes arriving at the beginning of next week, which we will put on the site immediately. Let us know if your looking for a bike and we can tell you what Norco will work best for you.

32

I went down to champions park last night to get a sneak peek at the new short track mtb course. It's going to be a lot of fun with tight turns and only a couple spots to pass on. Be sure to come out tonight, if this rain keeps on it's guaranteed to make things interesting.

46

Here's something for your Friday night to attend. Tom Moran has been snapping mountain bike pics since 1992 and he'll have some of his favorite on display this weekend. The opening night is this Friday from 5-9 and they will be there until the 30th of June.

48

If your looking for the Louisville Dirt Club they have moved, click the link to go their new home.

Here's a wheel set that will give your track bike a new look. Greens rims, white spokes and hubs with sealed bearings will keep your bike rolling smooth.

38

Here's the extremely popular ODI Long neck which is now available in all colors including neon green to match the above wheels. These are the only grip that I'll use... they last at least a year even with day to day riding.

36

Take a look at this Oval Concept Carbon stem. We just got it in and are pretty impressed with the look especially the clean face plate look with the bolts coming front the back.

39

The best way to extend the life of your drive train is by keeping it clean. This Chain Cleaning Kit from Pedro's will have your chain feeling like it just came out of the box. We've used this in the shop and like how well it cleans the inside of the chain.

A ton of rain fell yesterday and this was the scene by the wilderness loop taken from drew's Iphone. Good thing there's a trail maintence day coming up, they probably need some love.

24

25

We've had a lot of people bringing in bikes from their basement and restoring them and this is one of the best ways to get those sweet ride looking like new again.

14

With all the rain we've been having lately you might want to conisder picking up some fenders. Planet Bike offer a similar fender to the sks ones we reviewed a couple weeks ago but at a fraction of the pricee. The best feature of the Speed EZ Fender is the simplicity of moutning it to your bike, no nuts or bolts just quick re-lease straps is all it takes and they make them in versions for all bikes at a very reasonable price. Not only are these a great product, but Planet Bike donates 25% of all profits towards bicycle advocacy.

21

Here's a tire that will set your bike apart from every one else, blue, yellow, and white are available as well. Bright tires are good for safety concerns too, people in cars will deffinently see you coming down the road whem your rolling with ones this bright.

More product to protect your hands, the Pearl slice glove is heavily cushioned to keep your hands gripping the bars pain free.

c5

The Slice version is the same as the above just at a little lower price, we have full size runs in both gloves right now.

We love tools that work here at OYLC and this has got to be one of the best to show up as of lately. Pedro's vice whip is built in the same fashion as your dad's old vice grips you used to tighten you axle nuts when you were a kid only this version wraps tightly around your cassette when you are taking it off to clean or swap. If you have tried taking a worn cassette off with a regular chain whip you know it can be quite the task, this will solve all your problems!

c7

The Euro-Asia Imports EAI Pro Keirin track tool is another favorite of ours. It eases the removal of cog and lock ring and has a 15mm wrench as well.

b5

This is a new color combo for me. Shadow hubs and rims made for a super strong wheel, while the purple sets the customers wheels apart from any one else's in town.

May 4th, 2009

Last friday's alley cat had a great turn out. Thirty-eight riders cruised the town in search of all the checkpoints which ranged from a race around a high school track to scoring a goal in bike polo. The night was dry for the most part until the end when the rain came hard and we filled the shop with bikes and walked next door for some pizza and prize hand outs. It was a great event that was a lot of fun, but I'd like some people to remember that's what it's all about. I saw a lot of dangerous riding and would hate to see a serious accident. It's a lot better to finish a little slower than not finish at all, just a little reminder for the next alley cat.

a3

Local bmx legend Jimmy Levan is in town for a couple weeks and stopped by the shop along with one of his new Metal bikes frames.

b7

The Moon Unit is Paoli Indiana's Chris Wilson designed signature frame. It's deffinently good to see a local having his own frame put into production.

Well it's been one year since Drew and I took over the shop, and we really appreciate every one who supported us along the way. We've had a lot of fun seeing new and old faces coming in too. Spring is right around the corner and we have a lot of projects in the works... mechanic classes, photo contest, and a section on dialed products to check out. Come grab one of these homemade cream cheese icing carrot cake cup cakes, they're top notch and made by Drew's mom.

Here's Shimano's XT "Shadow" derailleur, a low profile makes it less prone to being snagged by a ride ending rock or branch. It is also shifts a lot smoother and doesn't make as much noise.

Check out this bmx frame from Eastern, super light tubing and cut-outs on the bottom bracket, seat, and head tube make for a super light set up. Chrome finish makes it even better.

Take a look at this road fork we got in today from Vicious Cycles. The customer wanted it to match his old Eddie Merckx frame, one phone call and an e-mailed photo was all it took to get this fork built and painted up to match. As you can see it's a perfect match, let us know if you have any special paint interest that we can help with.
